The Africa Dialogue Series 2026 (ADS 2026), themed "Water and Sanitation for Life: Harnessing Water Resources for the Africa We Want." focuses on water and sanitation, both critical to Africa's survival and development. The High-Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD), brings together policymakers from African member states to consolidate recommendations into a Call To Action (CTA) aligned with SDG 6 and the goals and aspirations of Agenda 2063. The dialogue will link the ADS to ongoing initiatives, including the twelfth Africa Forum for Sustainable Development (ARFSD-12), the Fourth Dushanbe Water Action Decade Conference, the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and the Second UN Water Conference. About the Theme The African Union (AU) has declared 2026 as the Year of “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.” This theme elevates water and sanitation to a continental political priority, recognizing them as catalysts for economic transformation, climate resilience, public health, food security, and regional stability. The theme was launched during the 39th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly in Addis Ababa on 14 February 2026. Despite progress, millions of Africans still lack safe water and sanitation, undermining health, productivity, and human dignity. Climate change is intensifying water stress through droughts, floods, and hydrological disruptions. Commemoration of the 63rd anniversary of OAU-AU.

The Commemoration of the 63rd anniversary of OAU-AU is organized by the African Union Commission through the AU Staff Association, in collaboration with AU Member States, AU Organs and Regional Economic Communities (RECs). The commemorative event on the 25th of May 2026 will bring together, among others: Representatives from AU Member State, the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC); the African Union Commission, AU Organs and AU Specialized Agencies; Regional Economic Communities (RECs); Women and Youth representatives; Civil Society Organisations; Development Partners; UN Agencies; Diaspora community and media representatives.  On May 23, 24 and 25th, 2026 starting from 10:00am; The commemoration will be celebrated in at the African Union headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  The programme will include:  Saturday 23–Sunday 24 May 2026 Sports activities (football, tennis, chess...), AU Departments stands, Cultural bazaar and family activities (entertainment, bounci...

The African Development Bank Group and the government of Brazzaville, in partnership with the African Union Commission, will host an Africa Day celebration to mark the official kickoff of the Bank Group’s 2026 Annual Meetings. Africa Day brings together participants of the Annual Meetings and Bank staff to showcase Africa’s cultural richness, contemporary creativity, and enduring sense of identity. The celebration of Africa will take place under the theme “ Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve Agenda 2063 ” in alignment with the African Union’s theme for 2026.
